Four Places for Self-Care That are ZERO Dollars in Atlanta

Piedmont Park in Atlanta for Self-Care

Piedmont Park is a gorgeous spot and a pain to park. The lake in Avondale Estates is much smaller, but still has a paved path around the lake with some nice benches. If you would like to be surrounded by trees, Constitution Lakes Park near the dive-in theater has a weird and fun art trail called Doll’s Head Trail. There are places to sit near the water.

Try turning your phone off and disconnecting from social media for half an hour.

It will all still be there when you return.

Mural Viewings in Atlanta

Into art, but don’t want to pay for a museum? Check out the murals from the Forward, Warrior! project along Wylie Street SE in Cabbagetown. You can find street parking to check out the murals on foot. If getting out of the car isn’t in the cards for you today, you can also drive and intermittently park along the street to view the art.

Take in the colors. What do you notice about your body as you look at the murals?

Oakland Cemetery

Hear me out. Oakland Cemetery is one of the best places to go in the city. Yes, it’s a cemetery but it’s also a garden and a free history tour. There are signposts throughout the cemetery directing you to call a phone number to hear more about the history of a person buried there. If you are more of a sitter than a walker, there are short brick walls and benches in the top part of the cemetery. While the cemetery is wheelchair accessible on the main paths, some of the paths between gravesites are uneven. Explore the gardens noticing how the plants are responding to the weather and the season. How are you also responding to the weather and the season?
