Sarah Meng, LPC

I received a Bachelor of Arts from Agnes Scott College in psychology and women’s studies and a Master of Science in Mental Health Counseling from Georgia State University. For more than a decade, my clinical work and research interests have focused on gender, sexuality, fat liberation, and resilience.

I have extensive training in trauma therapies and Somatic Experiencing. I work with clients who have faced trauma and discrimination based on body size, sexuality, gender, gender expression, race, ability, and relationship structure.

Clinical Practice Values

  • Trust & Skill

Maintains high professional standards according to the laws and ethics of my profession; holds highly sensitive information in confidence without wavering; follows best practices and evidence based methods of care; provides high quality, effective, and consistent care.

  • Competent Care

Like the warm light from a lantern when a tool to grasp is exactly what you need to be brave enough to go out into the woods. Kind and also effective; courage gathering; hope instilling; space making for the conditions of healing. Warm like a cup of tea at just the right time with someone who has hella trauma training.

  • Justice Sweet Justice

Not just theoretically knowledgeable of intersectionality, but invested in how my clients are impacted in the day to day; skill and care for not only the trauma my client has individually experienced, but also for collective and generational trauma and resilience.

You can heal.

I received my master of science in Mental Health Counseling in 2013 from Georgia State University. I’ve worked in several settings, including hospitals such as Emory and Grady as well as within university counseling centers. I’ve worked with the National Football League and the National Hockey League. Although all of these sites had their bright spots, I’ve never loved any job more than my private practice. I founded Healing Room Counseling in 2015.

In addition to clinical work, I have co-authored research publications with Dr. Annelise Singh and Dr. Anthony Hansen in academic journals such as the Journal of Counseling and Development and the Journal of LGBT Youth. I have also given professional presentations with organizations such as the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH), the American Psychological Association (APA), the National Women’s Studies Association (NWSA), and the Southeastern Association for Counselor Education and Supervision. I co-authored an article on so-called conversation therapy that was published in SAGE Press’ Encyclopedia of Theory and Counseling in Psychotherapy.

Two groups I was involved with for over a decade were awarded Grand Marshall of Atlanta Pride- Georgia Safe Schools Coalition and a support group called Trans and Friends. I am a member of the Association for Size Diversity and Health, the flagship organization for Health at Every Size (HAES).

I also provide consultations, training, and guest lectures to clinicians, companies, and universities seeking to increase their competencies and cultural humility. Some of the places I have provided training and lectures include the University of Georgia, Georgia Institute of Technology, Davidson College, Atlanta Medical Center, and Jabian Consulting.
